In March this year Affan Innovative Structures were invited by Al Futaim Carillion to assist in coming up with a proposal to unusual construction problem. Construction works are ongoing at the new Al Jalila Childrens Hospital in Dubai. The centerpiece of the new atrium is a 2 storey high “ladybug”.

In reality “Ladybug” is an unusually designed media center to be used by the children, but created in the shape of a giant ladybug

Affan Innovative Structures were asked to look at constructing a seamless double curved shell complete with skylights and wing effects. The 3D design was presented and approved in April and the problem of the seamless shell solved by the use of Affan’s advanced engineering and use of structural composite to create a 2 hour fire retardant seamless structure.

The shell construction commenced on Site in May 2015 and completed by the 2016.

In May this year CFK Valley and Airbus challenged Affan to produce the world’s first carbon fibre bus stop

The free form design was chosen from a short list of competitors to showcase the strength, beauty and ability of the material to achieve the dynamic curvature and cantilever.

CFK’s conference on carbon fibre was open on December 12th 2016 with keynote speech from Dr. Amer Affan of Affan Innovative Structures.

In June 2016 Affan were commissioned to prepare a very special piece for the Dubai Design Days Exhibition. The piece combined complex geometry around a naturally formed finish using a combination of 3D design, mixed with natural materials and a hand crafted finish.

An exceptional sculpture, that became the talking point of the complete exhibit that Affan were very proud to have supported.

The first internal tropical rainforest in UAE (The Green Planet) was opened to the public in August 2016.
